The Katam (Buxus Dioica) is a shrub belonging to the Buxaceae family. It grows mainly spontaneously in the dry, desert and rocky areas of Yemen. It is precisely here that you can find the best color quality of the plant itself. From dried and powdered catam leaves, a green powder is obtained, very similar to that of the indigofera (Henné Nero). Also in terms of color, the two powders are similar and contain some common dyes.
Katam powder is therefore ideal for cold and dark shades, but unlike henna, which offers blue shades, Katam helps violet nuances instead. It is therefore very useful to achieve the cold and dark shades of maroon, eg. for example, combined with the mixture of walnut malt, or useful for composing mahogany shades, such as in warm red etc.
Classic primer for pure powder: brown, dark brown, brown (40-120 minutes). On a light brown background, without or with very little white, it brings the nuance to dark and cold shades. With white hair (more than 10 %, especially if it is in an area), it is recommended to use a double cover and reflection: red henna No. 2 or No. 3 (10-40 minutes); rinse and then lay out the katam (40-120 minutes). The result obtained is fully visible after a few hours after drying.
Pure Katam Powder

Use: in a bowl and with a spoon, preferably not metal, mix the required amount of katam (for medium thick hair, shoulder length, 100 g of powder should be enough) with hot water, until a dough is not too thick.
For 100 g of powder is approx. 300/340 ml of water or (optional) black tea. Optionally, add a pinch of baking powder to the preparation water. Let the dough rest 1-2
