I’ve got four of these now, each for a different purpose, such as florals, food, landscapes, warm-up paints. It’s a great bargain with deep enough wells and plenty of space for mixing colors. It’s easy to write the color’s name and brand on the rim and have it stay there, and after using I just stack them and put them in a 2 gallon zip lock Hefty bag. I must have a gazillion different palettes, but these are my favorite.

Just what I needed for watercolour painting where I need to create nice thin washes at times with a lot of water. It is what it is and it does the job perfectly.

Should anyone offer you the job of redoing the Sistine Chapel, this may be the palette for you – its probably capacious enough … and so slightly intimidating for someone whose watercolours and acrylics rarely exceed A4. That said, its a nice bit of moulding, cleans up well (ie the moulding agents that cause pooling do come off with a bit of effort) and has some very deep – and big – trays for those ultra dilute washes, with a plethora of smaller but still deep sections for base colours and simpler mixes. Oh, and its far from expensive.So all in all is an effective and useful item, and although I’ve descried it as ‘huge’ it is of course exactly the size described in Amazon’s listing. You may prefer a smaller palette, but – like me – you might also find the wide open spaces available with this one to be useful and interesting to use. Certainly I have no regrets regarding buying .. and I’m sure very frequently using – this particular piece of plastic.

I have used similar palettes in the past for acrylic paints, but I am using watercolors (artist grade in tubes) for some work I’m doing now. This works well for a studio palette. I like this palette’s wells. I use it for a particular group of paint hues. I can put the amount of each paint that I think I’ll need and there are enough wells to add more if needed so I’ll still have clear color if I’ve dabbed my paintbrush with paint still on it to pick up another color to mix. I really like the size of the mixing areas and that there are four of them – well designed.Watercolor paint can be reactivated with water so I can still use the paint I’ve put on this palette for another piece of work. The price on these palettes make it affordable to keep several of them – each with a different combination of paint colors. I do this because I tend to use certain colors according to the type of painting I’m doing. When I finish using the colors in one palette I just put a piece of paper on top of the palette and put it on a shelf. This keeps dust off the palette and paint so it is ready the next time I want to use that particular group of colors. I highly recommend them if you only need one or if you use multiple groups of colors to have at the ready as I do. When I’ve used all of the paint on one I just put it in the sink with a little Dawn dish detergent and let it soak for a short time then I use a sponge to wash it and it is white and clean again. Some watercolors are know to stain. If you are using one of those pigments you may see a little stain, but it will not muddy any color if you choose to put a different color in a slightly stained well. Great product!
