The Perennial Way: New English Versions of Yoga Sutras, Dhammapada, Heart Sutra, Asht: New English Versions of Yoga Sutras, Dhammapada, Heart Sutra, Ashtavakra Gita, Faith Mind Sutra, and Tao Te Ching

In these timeless works, Patanjali, Buddha, Lao Tsu, and other great masters of the Way speak with resonant authority on man’s deepest questions, and offer explicit instructions for how an earnest seeker of Truth should conduct his or her search and life.

These insightful new versions by Bart Marshall are presented without commentary. Clear and poetic, yet intensely faithful to the language and nuance of the originals, they invite direct communion with the masters, and vibrate with revelatory self-evidence that resonates in the mind and heart long after reading.

    Great collection
Wonderful collection. One less star as I found the translation of the faith mind sutra less then other translations available. Still good for comparison.

The Perennial Way: New English Versions of Yoga Sutras, Dhammapada, Heart Sutra, Ashtavakra Gita, Faith Mind Sutra, and Tao Te Ching — by Bart Marshall is an essential text for all pilgrims exploring the nature of reality, identity, truth, and the nature of the cosmos.I purchased this book in March 2011 and it’s THE book I recommend for backing away from un-truth and uncovering the nature of the illusory personal self.Bart’s written words (and satsangs) ignited the final spark within me and many others towards seeing the illusory nature of the personal self.Bart’s translations in the Perennial Way are powerful, concise, and essential to grasping the paradox of these deep wisdom teachings and the initial dawning that Truth cannot ever be understood with the human brain.

‘No more can be said’ … so Bart Marshall’s translation of the Ashtavakra Gita ends. Absolutely!People like to use a common cliché when they talk about books they have read and really loved. I had always been suspicious of those sorts of claims, but no longer so after reading Bart Marshall’s translation of the Ashtavakra Gita.I have read philosophy since I was little, and along the years I have slowly gone through the works of such giants as Plato, Nietzsche, and others. Plato’s ‘Allegory of the Cave’ completely changed my perspective on things when I first read his ‘Republic’. Nietzsche’s works cleansed me of many things, and I love Nietzsche and his Zarathustra. But all these works, in all their greatness, still couldn’t make me make such an assertion as oh, this has really changed my life!Out of the Europeans Heraclitus is the only one who could move me to such a claim, and Heraclitus’ ‘Fragments’ have changed my life. They belong to the same ‘awakened’ category as the texts in ‘The Perennial Way’, and they are comparable in impact with Ashtavakra’s Gita, but when I read the latter … oh my God was I blown away! I have read two other English translation of the Ashtavakra Gita, and they don’t come close to Bart Marshall’s pure poetry. Bart Marshall translated the Gita not with his intellect, but with his heart, and you can feel it when you read the text, it simply sinks into your heart. His translations of the other texts are great too, and he has done a splendid job with the ‘Tao Te Ching’. In fact, he has done a splendid job with them all, for he doesn’t only translate intellectually, but as I said above from the heart.Buy this compilation and I bet you it will change your life. Open your heart to these texts and to Ashtavakra’s Gita in particular and you will be transformed … it’s inevitable. In between these texts here and the greatest European giant, Heraclitus, verily no more can be said.Thank you Bart Marshall for a most generous and compassionate effort!

This book is a reminder. If you’ve ever heard something that struck a chord inside of you, then reading this book will be like coming back home to that. Of course, when I say ‘you’ I mean me. I am grateful for Bart Marshall’s editing and presenting of these sacred texts in a clear form under one cover. Reading this book was a reminder to me. Of home.D. WeimerFlushing, Ohio
